History of Idanre Hills

Idanre is a little but historic town in Ondo State, Nigeria. The town is located at the foot of the scenic hill which is of exceptional cultural and environmental importance and attracts many tourists.

The town is controversially divided into a three-leader Rule, with the three localities of Atosin, Alade and Odode , which is also known as Ode-Idanre.

Although Ode Idanre is said to be the Major Township with the most Population and Land Area, the others have always been recognized by the occupants individually. The people’s major food is, mixed okra soup and pounded yam, pounded yam has been a very popular dish in the state.

Location

The town is about 20 km southeast of the state’s capital Akure.  It has an area of 1,914 km² and a population of 129,024 as of the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 340. Idanre is Nigeria’s largest cocoa producing area, a mainly Yoruba speaking tribe, the dialect is very similar to that of the people of Ondo town, with the majority of them going into cocoa crop farming and trading.
